Find Your Goals

Ask yourself: “Who do you want to be five years from now?” “Why do you want this goal and what is the purpose of your life?” Yes, it sounds pretty deep and figuring out what you want in life sounds like a challenge. But things will get easier once you pass this stage. If you are unsure where to start, break it down into these five components. Think about what you want socially, financially, emotionally, intellectually and even physically. Your goals should be realistic yet challenging at the same time.

Assess Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Be it a personality trait or the lack of knowledge, everyone has a weakness that can potentially prevent them from attaining their goals. However, maximising your strengths can actually help to counteract this issue. Conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)  analysis to better understand your strengths and weaknesses. It will give you a rough idea of how far you are from your goals and the steps you need to take to achieve them.

Start A Plan

Now that you have a clearer idea of your future, it’s time to plan it out! Your personal development plan is like a map that will guide you to your destination. Think about this: What are the steps you have to take to lead you to your goals? Do you have the right tools and knowledge? The more detailed you are with your plan, the easier it is for you to achieve your goal. After writing down your goals, stick it somewhere visible to make it easier to commit to them! Remember, a plan is just a plan unless you act on it!

Track And Review

It is only when we look back, are we able to get a clearer picture on how to move forth. No matter how big or small the progress, take the time to evaluate them. It helps you to keep your eyes on the prize and gives you the motivation to power through your goals. If you are on track, find out what you did right and keep it up! If you face a setback, learn what you could have done better. Don’t be afraid to remove it and include new goals if you have changed your direction in life and the goal no longer serves you.

Having a personal development plan gives us greater stability and control over our lives. It gives us something to look forward to and adds meaning into our lives.
