Te Teuk Pus Hot Spring is one of Cambodia’s rare geothermal attractions. This natural hot spring is located in front of Phnom Te village in Sangke Sap commune, Oral district, about 60 kilometers west of Kampong Speu province. The spring has a diameter of around 100 meters and is fed by six underground sources. Its surface water covers about 80 square meters and maintains an intense temperature of nearly 70°C with a noticeable sulfur and limestone scent.
Why Te Teuk Pus is Special
Hot springs are uncommon in Cambodia, which makes Te Teuk Pus an important natural landmark. Local indigenous communities, including the Kuoy people, believe that the mineral rich water provides various health benefits such as improving skin conditions and relieving certain illnesses. The area is surrounded by red rocks, tall grass, and untouched natural scenery, offering a quiet and authentic environment for visitors seeking a peaceful retreat away from crowded destinations.
What Visitors Can Expect
Te Teuk Pus is roughly a two to three hour drive from Phnom Penh. This makes it suitable for either a day trip or a short weekend escape. Since the site is still minimally developed, visitors should bring their own necessities such as towels, bottled water, snacks, and insect repellent. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities for hiking, nature walks, and visits to small waterfalls and rivers.
Travel Tips
Visiting during the dry season from November to April is generally more convenient due to better road conditions. Because infrastructure around the site is limited, many travelers prefer to hire private transportation or join guided tours. Visitors are encouraged to respect local customs and traditions as the hot spring is located near indigenous communities that value the area’s cultural and spiritual significance.
